The United Nations resolution is titled Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Women in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. The resolution urges member countries to ensure that effective and fair responses to all acts of violence against women are in place. Three crucial issues surrounding implementation are moving from vision to reality, respecting diversity, and provision of the necessary human and financial resources. The United States State Department has funded an action research project in the former Soviet Union. A project goal is to bring together criminal justice officials and leaders of non-governmental organizations to develop effective responses to violence. The project is developing collaborative relationships between individuals from Central Asia, North America, and the Russian Federation. One project component is an intercultural action model for police training on domestic violence. The ultimate goal of this and other efforts must be violence prevention.
