This manual provides materials for a 1999 conference that provided training and technical assistance to victim service providers, criminal and tribal justice personnel, victims, victim advocates, volunteers, and other allied professionals who serve the needs of victims in Indian Country.
Abstract
The manual first provides the learning objectives and a summary of content for a pre-conference institute that pertains to a cross-cultural curriculum for Federal criminal justice personnel and an introduction to the Children's Advocacy Center model. Learning objectives and hand-outs are then provided for the various conference workshops. Workshop topics include the investigation and prosecution of organized gangs in Indian Country, Federal resources in support of tribal corrections, child abuse investigations in Indian Country, the development of juvenile detention facilities appropriate for Native communities, effective advocacy for Native women, and the development and implementation of child advocacy centers in Indian Country. Other workshop topics and materials pertain to the clinical treatment of juvenile sex offenders, working with sexual assault victims and their families, a probation response for ending violence against Native women, victim compensation and victim assistance, and the nature of and response to domestic violence. Federal resources for victim services in Indian Country are also addressed.
