The paper begins with the horrific recap of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on United States’ World Trade Center and the Pentagon causing the loss of thousands of lives. This atrocity was the responsibility of the al Qaeda terrorist network, headed by Osama bin Laden, with the support of the Taliban regime. The al Qaeda’s terrorist rampage on the United States had spread across the globe prior the September 11 attack with attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania and the attack on the Navy ship USS Cole. The United States has established a worldwide coalition to identify and destroy a global network of terrorists, through the use of diplomacy, law enforcement, intelligence, financial investigation, military action, and humanitarian aid. However, in the process the United States and other nations are working as part of an international coalition to bring humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan who have been the victims of the Taliban regime. The al Qaeda and Taliban are recognized as simply terrorists and criminals and not “Islamic terrorists.” As an international coalition, the United States and its partners across the globe will fight the sustained battle to defeat terrorism. The United States will continue to offer leadership and a vision of hope, security, freedom, and economic opportunity.
