A constitution is a system of fundamental principles that have been adopted by a people for the government of a nation, state, or other group. A constitution sets the parameters for all government actions and carves out areas of individual liberties that cannot be infringed upon. The United States Constitution has three primary functions: organizes government; assigns duties and responsibilities to the branches of the Federal Government and between the Federal and State Governments; and acts as a limitation on the authority of all governments.
