Abstract
The Emergency Response Guidebook 2000 helps responders in making decisions at the scene of a dangerous goods incident. The guide includes an index of dangerous goods in numerical order of ID number. This section quickly identifies the guide to be consulted from the ID number of the material involved. There is also an index of dangerous goods in alphabetical order of material name. This section identifies the guide to be consulted from the name of the material involved. The most important section of the guidebook recommends safety actions. It makes up a total of 62 separate guides, presented in a 2 page format. Each of the guides presents safety recommendations and emergency response information to protect the first responder and the public. Each guide is divided into three sections. The first section outlines potential hazards that the material may display in relation to its fire explosion and health effects upon exposure. The second section describes suggested public safety measures based on the particulars of the situation. The third section examines emergency response actions, which includes first aid. Another section contains a table that lists, by ID number, the TIH materials (a liquid or a gas that is so toxic to humans as to pose a hazard to health during transportation), including chemical warfare agents and water reactive materials that produce toxic cases upon contact with water. Isolation and evacuation distances are outlined in the guides. Glossary
