This CD-Rom provides instruction and materials to law enforcement officers of the U.S. Department of the Interior regarding procedures for managing and serving victims and witnesses.
Abstract
As part of the material on the CD-ROM, a video provides instruction on police interaction with and services for victims/witnesses. Mandated responsibilities of police officers are to identify victims and witnesses, inform victims and witnesses of their rights, and refer victims and witnesses to emergency medical and victim services. The video intersperses narrative instruction with dramatized interactions between officers and victims/witnesses, so as to illustrate proper procedures for such interactions. A Victims' Bill of Rights is also presented. Also presented on the CD-ROM is a "Victim & Witness" brochure that officers are expected to provide to victims/witnesses for the purpose of informing them of their rights and the services available to them. The brochure is available in a number of languages. Links to Web sites with valuable resources related to victim and witness services are also provided. A quiz is provided to test the user on his/her knowledge of Federal victim/witness rights and services.
