This is the participant workbook for a workshop designed to train trainers in the implementation of effective youth violence-prevention strategies based in school-community cooperative endeavors.
Abstract
The workshop goals are to explore issues associated with youth violence and strategies for violence prevention; to introduce the Violence-Prevention Curriculum for Adolescents and present guidelines for using this curriculum; to provide participants the opportunity to plan and present sample lessons from the Violence-Prevention Curriculum; to present a framework for an overall school-based violence-prevention project; and to provide information about additional violence-prevention resources available to participants. One section of the workbook contains an executive director's guide for implementing effective youth violence-prevention strategies for Cities in Schools (CIS) programs. Materials in another section contain pretraining assessment activities, planning and preparation for the project, project implementation, and project evaluation. Also included are reported outcomes of a CIS pilot violence prevention program. Other sections of the workbook contain a listing of youth violence resources, articles pertinent to youth violence and its prevention, a workshop evaluation form, and data on the violent victimization of juveniles.
