In this article, the author presented and described 12 biochemical agents to healthcare professionals attending the 2001 National Conference on Correctional Health Care, November 2002, in Las Vegas, CA, to increase their awareness in the diagnoses of potential terrorist threats from both biological and chemical agents. Of the 12 biochemical agents presented, 6 were biological agents: (1) Anthrax; (2) Tularemia; (3) Botulism; (4) VHF; (5) the Plague; and (6) Smallpox. The remaining biochemical agents described were chemical and included: (1) Cyanide; (2) Mustard Gas; (3) VX Gas; (4) Theon Gas; (5) Mycotoxins; and (6) Sarin Gas. It was stressed that an observation of any unusual clinical presentation should prompt an immediate call to their local health department office of epidemiology.
