This report profiles the ADJC's population of female juvenile commitments based upon the analysis of the subject juveniles' juvenile court commitment orders, the ADJC's proprietary inmate (commitment) information database (YouthBase), and other files that the ADJC's Research and Development Division may access. Major findings included a decrease in the number of new and continuing commitments and a recognition that a substantial number of commitments had substance abuse, theft behavior, and school behavior treatment needs. Additionally, Maricopa County continued to have the highest number of juvenile referrals to the ADJC system. The profile also discussed seasonal fluctuations in commitment rates, gang affiliation rates, the types of offenses resulting in commitment, and provided comparison with the data for fiscal years 1998, 1999, and 2000.
