This document is a statistical analysis and report prepared by the State of California, Criminal Justice Statistics Center presenting offense rates and charging information for concealed firearms offenses committed and recorded during the 2000-2001 fiscal year.
Abstract
Based upon legislative changes in the year 2000 to the California Criminal Code provisions (See Penal Code Section 12025 and Penal Code Section 12031) criminalizing the possession of an unregistered concealed and/or loaded weapon, the California Department of Justice is now required to collect and report upon demographic information regarding violations of these penal code sections. Reportable demographics include race, ethnicity, age, and gender of any person charged under Penal Code Section 12025 (carrying a concealed weapon) or Penal Code Section 12031 (carrying a loaded weapon). The information presented is for fiscal year 2001. By law, comparative statistical information analyzing trends over time will appear for the first time in the report for fiscal year 2004. Statistical information for each demographic category was presented to show total number of offenses, percentage of offenses by demographic sub-category, for example by each race or by each gender, and also by the offense and charging level. Other information presented in the report includes whether or not the offenses were committed in conjunction with other offenses. Charts, figures, tables, appendix, glossary
