This newsletter for emergency responders provides information on events, resources, programs, and activities that pertain to emergency management for responding to disasters, notably incidents that involve weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
Abstract
The first section of the newsletter announces the first meeting of the National Domestic Preparedness Office's (NDPO's) State and Local Advisory Group (SLAG) for late September 2000. The purpose of SLAG is to provide the Federal interagency community with practical and general policy advice regarding program strategy, development, and implementation to enhance the preparedness and response capabilities of emergency responders. The newsletter next announces the next NDPO "chat session" on Law Enforcement Online on September 29, 2000. The focus of the chat will be biological terrorism, with William Patrick as the featured guest. Instructions are provided for participating in the chat. Also announced is a satellite broadcast on August 30, 2000. CoMNET -- The Consequence Management News, Equipment, and Training Magazine, is a recurring satellite broadcast program that offers WMD-related awareness information to the Nation's civilian and military emergency response communities. CoMNET is a news-magazine style program that consists of multiple segments. Another satellite broadcast is sponsored by the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases and is scheduled for September 26, 27, and 28, 2000. The live 3-day satellite broadcast will inform health professionals about the proper medical response in the event of an intentional biological-agent release. Registration instructions are provided. A new director is announced for Region VII of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and information is provided on an upcoming WMD conference (September 27-30, 2000). NDPO online resources for emergency responders are listed.
