One of the matters brought to the attention by the Economic and Social Council was draft resolutions recommended for adoption by the General Assembly. These resolutions dealt with international cooperation against transnational organized crime; a political conference for signing the United Nations (U.N.) convention against corruption; plans for the implementation of the Vienna Declaration on Crime and Justice; and preparations for the Eleventh U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice. Draft resolutions for adoption by the Economic and Social Council included basic principles on the use of restorative justice programs in criminal matters; action to promote effective crime prevention; and promotion of measures dealing with missing children and sexual abuse or exploitation of children. Plans for adoption of U.N. standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice, international cooperation with regard to kidnapping and assistance for victims, and illicit trafficking in protected species of wild flora and fauna were also discussed. A resolution for strengthening international cooperation in preventing and combating terrorism was proposed. Draft decisions that were adopted by the Economic and Social Council included reports for future sessions and appointment of members of the Board of Trustees. A symposium on combating international terrorism was brought to the attention of the Council. There was discussion on reform of the criminal justice system regarding achieving effectiveness and equity; U.N. standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice; international cooperation in combating transnational crime; and the work of the Center for International Crime Prevention. Also, discussion centered on strengthening international cooperation in combating terrorism; preparations for the 11th U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice; and strategic management and program questions. The provisional agenda for the 12th session of the Commission and the adoption of the report of the Commission on its 11th session were discussed. Annexes
