Abstract: The Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics compiles annual statistical information about crime and criminal justice in the United States. In this 29th annual edition of the Sourcebook, data is provided on crime and the administration of justice and public attitudes towards various crime and justice issues in the year 2001. The report is divided into six sections: (1) characteristics of the criminal justice systems; (2) public attitudes toward crime and criminal justice-related topics; (3) nature and distribution of known offenses; (4) characteristics and distribution of persons arrested; (5) judicial processing of defendants; and (6) persons under correctional supervision.
