This CD-ROM is designed to disseminate data compiled by the Federal Justice Statistics Program (FJSP) for 2000, so that users can conduct their own analyses of Federal criminal justice system data.
Abstract
The CD-ROM contains the computer programs used to create the FJSP Standard Analysis File (SAF) data sets, sanitized and uncompressed ASCII version of the SAFs, the computer programs used to create the tables that appear in the 2000 FJSP annual reports, and documentation about the computer programs and data sets. The computer programs that create the SAFs are called Stage I programs. These consist primarily of SAS programs that link several years of source agency data and selected records of defendants whose offense occurred during fiscal year 2000 (October 1, 1999, through September 30, 2000). The Compendium of Federal Justice Statistics for 2000 contains data on arrests for Federal offenses, prosecution, pretrial release, adjudication, sentencing, appeals, and corrections, along with an overview of stages of Federal criminal case processing. Codebooks and SAFs are provided for datasets compiled by various Federal criminal justice agencies. These include the U.S. Marshals Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys, Administrative Office of U.S. Courts, Pretrial Services Agency, U.S. Sentencing Commission, Federal Criminal Appeals, and Federal offenders under supervision.
