This booklet presents the Crime Analysis Report forms for the Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP), which is a nationwide data information center that collects, collates, and analyzes crimes of violence, specifically solved or unsolved homicides/attempted homicides, missing persons/kidnappings, and unidentified bodies.
Abstract
ViCAP's mission is to facilitate cooperation, communication, and coordination among law enforcement agencies and provide support in their efforts to investigate, identify, track, apprehend, and prosecute violent serial offenders. This booklet contains instructions and forms for submitting data and information on a case to ViCAP. Forms provide for the submission of information on the agency sending the information; the victim in the case (missing and unidentified victims as well as identified victims); the offender/suspect, including identified offender information; offender's modus operandi; specific locations for event sites; the condition of the victim when found (body disposition, restraints used on victim, and clothing and property of the victim); cause of death and/or trauma; sexual activity; weapon information; vehicle information; and additional case information.
