This article explains the benefits of physical fitness for law enforcement officers.
Abstract
The author explains that after the police academy training is completed, law enforcement officers should continue to maintain a high level of physical fitness. While being physically fit is important for any police officer, few police departments have instituted routine physical testing of their officers. The author explains that the benefits of proper physical fitness for law enforcement officers include decreased stress and increased job performance. Law enforcement agencies are encouraged to set up quality gyms for their officers that include cardiovascular equipment and weight training equipment. They are also challenged to offer fitness programs that motivate officers to consistently exercise and to institute periodic fitness testing for officers. In conclusion, the author contends that the future of law enforcement hinges on keeping officers healthy and fit.
