This document presents statistics from the King County Sheriff’s Office for 2001.
Abstract
The crime rate is calculated on the basis of 1,000 people (number of crimes per 1,000 people). The population is 569,944. The total Part I Offenses (including homicide, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, vehicle theft, arson) was 19,862, a 0.1 percent change from last year. The total Part II Offenses was 20,613 with a 2.1 percent change from last year. There were 126,730 dispatched calls for service, a 1.5 percent increase. Adult charges and arrests rose 11 percent, with a total of 10,990. Juvenile charges and arrests rose 1.9 percent, with a total of 2,289. Traffic enforcement offenses were a total of 50,284 with a 9.9 percent increase. Forty-nine officers were assaulted, with a 2.1 percent increase over last year. The total gang-related incidents were 424, an increase of over 136 percent. The total domestic violence related incidents were 5,031, an increase of 0.6 percent. These figures include everything related to domestic violence: case reports, citations, follow-ups, and assistance rendered to other agencies. Hate crime and malicious harassment reports numbered 55, an increase of 5.8 percent over last year.
