This report presents data on admissions and releases for inmates in New York for the calendar year 2001.
Abstract
Preliminary data for Department of Correctional facilities in New York State show that the inmate population dropped by 2,759 inmates during 2001, representing an 8 percent decrease from admissions during 2000. Total admissions during 2001 was 26,377 inmates, bringing the total population to 67,395 inmates. Data are also offered for the number of State ready inmates, the number of parole violators, and the number of conditional release violators for calendar year 2001. Release data for 2001 are also offered in this report. A total of 29,184 inmates were released from New York correctional facilities from January through December 2001, which represents a 2.6 percent decrease in releases from the year 2000. Data on releases are broken down into those released on parole, conditional release, and those released at the expiration of their sentence. Statistics are offered in both narrative form and in tables.
