Abstract
HEUNI activities with reference to the aforementioned themes have featured the organization of expert meetings, the conduct of training and study projects, and the dissemination of information. HEUNI has also sought to strengthen the ties between the work of the United Nations and other intergovernmental organizations, such as the European Union and the Council of Europe. HEUNI projects in 2001 have involved the promotion and maintenance of the rule of law and good governance; criminal justice reform and the strengthening of legal institutions; international cooperation in combating transnational crime; crime prevention and control, particularly in urban areas and in the context of public security; the use and application of United Nations standards and norms in crime prevention and criminal justice; and technical cooperation, including resource mobilization and the coordination of activities. The activities and the status of each HEUNI project in 2001 are indicated. Information is also provided on the collection and dissemination of information, HEUNI's scholarship program, and participation in international meetings.
