This article describes the software that the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office used to bring local crime records into police patrol cars.
Abstract
The author explains that police agencies around the country have installed computer monitors into squad cars to enable police officers to access crime data. However, in most cases, officers can retrieve State and Federal data, but cannot access data from their local jurisdiction. The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office overcame this problem by utilizing ResQPortal, a software package from the ResQNet company based in New York. This software package coverts mainframe data to user-friendly Web screens. This technology allows police officers to access the county’s database from touchscreens mounted on their vehicle dashboards. ResQPortal does not require time-consuming downloads or installation and does not need to be configured, maintained, or updated. Instead, all functions are performed at the Web and application server where the ResQPortal program resides. With this technology, an officer can quickly access important data and make quick decisions about a suspect based on all State, Federal, and local data.
