This report presents the many crime-fighting programs introduced by the Crime Prevention Coalition of America.
Abstract
The Crime Prevention Coalition of America, founded in the late 1970’s, is a nonpartisan group of more than 4,000 national, State, Federal, and community-based organizations united to take action against crime. In the spring of 1978, the Coalition introduced the public service announcements that gave us McGruff the Crime Dog. The success of the “Take a Bite Out Of Crime” campaign spurred the Coalition to produce a variety of programs and materials, all designed to motivate individual citizens to take action against crime and to create safer, more caring communities. In the remainder of the report, the Coalition presents seven of its’ national crime prevention programs, including the National Neighborhood Watch Program, sponsored by the National Sheriffs’ Association, and MADD: Youth in Action. Next, a description of Coalition programs for each of the 50 States is presented, including information about program statistics and contact persons. This report also contains information about the benefits of membership on the Crime Prevention Coalition of America. In conclusion, the Coalition challenges the Nation to become more active in the prevention of crime, violence, and drugs in our country.
