Abstract
The report provides a glossary and abbreviations section and then offers data about institutional populations in table format. The first section reports on the resident population of adult corrections institutions and the numbers of offenders on pre-release and work release. Data are offered by facility, by major institution, by minor institution, by the division of prisons, and by the grand total statewide. The second section describes the characteristics of inmates for all three categories of resident, pre-release, and work release. Data are offered by race, by offense, by age, and by location. Next, data on admissions to prison throughout the State of Washington are described by offense and type of admission for fiscal year 2003, as of March 31, 2003. Releases by type of release and length of stay by offense type are described. The following section provides data on custody distributions of inmates within institutions, pre-release, and work release throughout Washington. Information is offered about current custody classifications by location, by population assignment and sex, by most recent placement reason, and by override reason and score. The final section describes risk level categories of resident inmates, pre-release inmates, and work release inmates by facility.
