Abstract
The NLADA is the Nation’s leading advocate for front-line attorneys and other equal justice professionals. The members defend low-income clients and their families and communities. The NLADA devotes 100 percent of its resources to serving the broad equal justice community. The Division of Civil Legal Services provides advocacy before Congress and Federal agencies, training and technical assistance to civil legal aid providers, pro bono programs, law schools, and individual advocates. The division also provides national leadership to ensure that low-income people have access to effective representation in civil matters. The Division of Defender Legal Services is the leading national provider of standards, training, information, and technical assistance for public defender programs and other indigent defense professionals. NLADA offers a wide range of print and electronic publications to member offices. The National Training Calendar and Job Bank are designed so that equal justice advocates may add their upcoming events and job openings to the site directly from their desktops. NLADA sponsors 13 awards honoring the distinguished men and women whose outstanding service and achievement advance the cause of equal access to justice. A listing of organizations that provide civil legal assistance and support services to persons unable to retain private counsel is included. A list of organizations that provide criminal representation to persons unable to retain private counsel, including public defender programs and legal services agencies that contain a public defender component, is also provided. Organizations and offices that provide support and coordination regarding substantive law, advocacy, delivery innovations, training, resource development, and other types of services related to the delivery of civil legal services are listed.
