The booklet is designed to be a reference tool for use in training and education for law enforcement and public safety personnel who are involved in the field of airport and aviation security, as well as disaster management. It is divided into two major sections. The first section contains 45 reference listings presented in alphabetical order. Many of the topics addressed concern traditional terrorist threats to airports and aviation, such as skyjacking, explosives and explosive detection, screening and access control, and firearms detection. Newer classes of threats and countermeasures pertain to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear terrorism as identified by governmental authorities. Another area of listing focuses on military and emergent military weaponry such as antimateriel rifles, rocket propelled grenades, surface-to-air missiles, information operations and warfare, electronic and radio frequency weapons, and lasers. Special categories have also been added with reference to arson and fire, disruption and economic costs, and disaster management and response. The second section of the booklet is a detailed author reference listing of just over 1,300 entries. A small final section of limited-distribution references is also provided.
