This article briefly describes the variety of technology available to law enforcement in the field of mobile printers.
Abstract
Mobile printers become invaluable to law enforcement in the printing of traffic citations, mug shots, or for tagging and storing evidence from a crime or accident scene. Today, law enforcement, depending on the need, has a variety of lightweight, rugged, small, and simple mobile printers from which to choose from, printing both full-size and small document printing. This article presents a number of manufacturers and describes the printers they manufacture and distribute. In addition, Symbol Technologies, which produces its own mobile printers, seeks out “best of breed” mobile printers and works with its manufacturers to reengineer the printers according to the law enforcement agency’s need. The article provides a quick reference guide with a comparison chart of mobile printers; their dimensions, weight and speed, ruggedness, connectivity, printing, and power.
