This article briefly describes the intranet mapping program and how law enforcement agencies can establish intranet mapping in their individual agencies.
Abstract
Unlike Internet sites, intranet sites house agency information and resources and are intended only for internal staff. These sites allow access to powerful tools and applications across multijurisdictional boundaries, such as geographical information systems (GIS) or computer mapping. The accessing of these maps or data universally and rapidly over wide areas is through a generic Web browser with location as a common variable and an easy to understand universal browser interface in a healthy data environment. This article presents the benefits of an intranet mapping program, as well as how to establish and implement intranet mapping. Intranet mapping helps in community redevelopment and can effectively coordinate governmental services and resources. Intranet mapping is more than policing.
