Abstract
Following a brief introduction from Judge Timothy L. Cardwell expressing his appreciation in being selected as Huron County's Juvenile and Probate Court Judge, this annual report describes the court's balanced approach to juvenile justice for delinquent and unruly children. Brief discussions concerning community placements, a comparison of detention costs over the last 5 years, and a chart presenting the number of hearings and trials conducted is followed by a systematic listing of Huron County's court personnel. A description of the court's commitment to the Department of Youth Services is followed by a chart detailing sources of delinquency, unruly, and traffic complaints. Additional charts present complaints docketed in 2002, a comparison to 2001, ages of delinquency, unruly, and traffic offenders, and dispositions of delinquent, unruly, and traffic complaints. A table detailing violations named on delinquency, unruly, and traffic complaints is followed by charts illustrating residences of delinquent, unruly, and traffic offenders, sources of abused, dependent, and neglected complains, and disposition of abused, dependent, and neglected children. A discussion of various court services, including community service learning and court appointed special advocates completes this report.
