Abstract
Following a brief presentation of the Illinois Department of Corrections’ (DOC) mission statement, explaining that the DOC seeks to protect the public from criminal offenders through a system of incarceration and supervision, and segregating offenders from society, this report profiles the DOC’s Bureau of Operations, describing its organization and the Bureau’s staff members. The DOC is divided into five geographical districts, each charged with the supervision of all correctional facilities including persons, adult transition centers, and parole activities. This report discusses each division, describing the division’s deputy and assistant deputy directors and indicating which correctional facilities fall under each of the divisions. The DOC’s improvements in security levels, including controlled movements for inmates and improved cleanliness measures are discussed. In addition, this report profiles the wardens of each correctional facility for each of the seven levels of adult correctional centers, for the adult transition centers, and for the juvenile detention division. Focusing on the Division of Women and Family Services, this annual report describes the wardens of each correctional facility that specializes in meeting the unique medical, social, psychological, educational, vocational, and parental needs of the committed female offender. After describing the DOC’s various program services, this report details various administrative services, focusing on the various offices housed under the DOC. Focusing on the DOC’s Chief of Staff, Chief of Legal Counsel, Office of Staff Development and Training, and the Office of the Special Assistant to the Director, this report profiles the directors of each of these departments and details the various units that comprise each section. A discussion of the Division of Finance and Budget is followed by a description of the Chief Intergovernmental Relations Officer, the Chief Fiscal Auditor, and the Deputy of Policy and Recruitment. A series of “Highlights” from the past fiscal year is presented through photographs, fact sheets, and statistical overview tables and graphs. A comprehensive directory of all of the facilities under the DOC follows a brief organizational overview presenting the DOC at a glance.
