This workbook contains numerous quizzes, helpful tips, and information regarding housing, employment, transportation, money management, education, life skills, and living under supervision for offenders about to be released from the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
Abstract
The workbook is divided into nine sections, each dealing with a different area of concern for offenders just getting out of prison. The first section is an introduction and includes a worksheet on potential barriers for a successful re-entry into society and a checklist of items needed to make a successful transition. The second section offers worksheets related to housing and rental expenses, including questions about past housing experiences. The third section deals with employment issues and contains an employment profile worksheet, an education history worksheet, questions about skills and interests, and numerous tips about job searching, interviewing, and preparing resumes and cover letters. Several examples of resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, and typical applications for employment are included. The fourth section offers tips regarding transportation issues, while the fifth section assists with money management issues. Worksheets for monthly budgeting and how to handle a checking account are included. The sixth section, on education, offers a quiz designed to determine the appropriate education needed for desired jobs. The seventh section offers tips about health and life skills, including facts nutrition, exercise, and sexually transmitted diseases. The eight section offers support for the reunification of family and friend relationships following prison. Included in this section is a letter format to be used to request a review of child support financial obligations. Finally, the ninth section offers tips on how to successfully live while under supervision.
