This guide was designed by the Missouri Attorney General’s Office to assist victims of domestic violence.
Abstract
The guide provides information concerning how to obtain protective orders, where to locate shelters and support services, and where to contact victim advocates. The first section provides an overview of the two types of protective orders, how to file for an order of protection, and an explanation of how an order of protection is served to an accused abuser. The second section lists contact information for victim advocates in Missouri by county. The third section identifies shelters and services for abuse victims that may be found throughout Missouri; also included is a map identifying which cities have shelters and which cities have motel placement or safe homes. The fourth section describes how protective orders are enforced and the fifth section explains the crime victims’ compensation fund and how to assess eligibility. Finally, legal terms are defined and additional consumer-oriented brochures offered by the Attorney General’s Office of Missouri are listed.
