This second volume of a two-volume annotated bibliography of Federal documents is intended as a resource for libraries and other centers of information in providing users with materials that will inform them about critical issues regarding the threat of terrorism and the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Abstract
This bibliography is intended to provide a means of access to information produced by the Federal Government concerning the events of September 11. Since the terrorist attacks on this date, and the Nation's responses to them, stemmed from historical circumstances, this bibliography is not limited to documents that directly relate to September 11. These publications address how the United States has dealt with terrorism in the past, the political circumstances and motives of previous terrorist acts, how the Nation has prepared for terrorism in the past and how it is planning for the future, the Nation's vulnerabilities to future attacks, the kinds of future attacks that are likely, and the likely source of those future attacks. Document types include congressional hearings, reports, acts, and resolutions; presidential proclamations, addresses, and significant White House press releases; United States defense, national security, and policy materials from the Department of the Army, the Department of Defense, and the State Department; intelligence materials from the Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and medical information from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Miscellaneous materials are listed from the Departments of Agriculture, Energy, and Education, as well as the Library of Congress Federal Research Division, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Justice Department, the Department of the Interior, the U.S. Geological Survey, the Coalition Information Centers, the Naval War College, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the General Accounting Office, the National Committee on Terrorism, the Department of the Navy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Army War College. The bibliography is arranged alphabetically by document title within broad subject areas. General topics are the aftermath of the September 11 attacks; congressional and presidential actions; global terrorism; international politics; national security of the United States; U.S. foreign relations, policy, and treaties; and weapons of mass destruction. This second volume of the bibliography contains approximately 260 entries.
