Abstract
For each listing, there is a brief description of the terrorism-related services available. The listings for State and Federal agencies include the U.S. Department of Homeland Defense, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the State police, State emergency management agencies, and State public health agencies. Types of local agencies that might be consulted are local law enforcement agencies, local emergency management agencies, public health agencies, fire departments, emergency medical services, and coroner/medical examiner. Types of private services and nonprofit organizations listed are consultant services, and nonprofit organizations. The latter include the American Red Cross, the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, and the National Organization for Victim's Assistance. The article advises that in selecting resources, attention should be given to matching experts to the needs being addressed. By focusing on the relevance of the expertise to identified security needs, the best fit can be made between the knowledge base required and the need to be addressed.
