Abstract
The United Nations’ Economic and Social Council passed resolutions in 1992, 1994, and 1999 facilitating the worldwide coordination of crime prevention and criminal justice activities and policies. This report provides information from participating institutes regarding the activities undertaken toward this goal. Data for the report were provided by the participating institutes as a per a General Assembly resolution passed in 2002. First, the activities of the United Nations’ Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute are reviewed and focus on juvenile justice issues, criminal justice reform, trafficking in human beings, terrorism, and international crime surveys. The next section presents the criminal justice activities of the individual participating institutes during the reporting period. Research projects, prison reforms, terrorism prevention strategies, programs on gender equality, and inmate treatment and training programs are all described as some of the activities of the participating institutes. The final section presents a brief synopsis of the activities of the International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council, which focuses on organized crime, corruption, and trafficking in humans and terrorism.
