This report presents information on the National Institute of Corrections' (NIC) training programs and related services for practitioners in juvenile corrections, detention, and probation and parole.
Abstract
The training programs and services profiled in this report were selected based on continuous training needs assessment. Each training program provides several days of intensive training that includes small-group and large-group discussions, group exercises, and shared experiences. In most programs, participants develop individual action plans or begin projects they can implement when they return home. The training programs for juvenile corrections professionals are presented under the following subjects: leadership and management, helping agencies build capacity for training and development, and juvenile offender management. Under these subject categories, training programs encompass not only on-site courses but also electronic (Internet) interactive training curricula through the NIC e-Learning Center. There are also some training opportunities available through satellite and videoconference broadcasts. For each training program, this report indicates the medium for delivery, who is eligible for participation, course description, application requirements, and contact information. In addition to information on training programs, this report also describes NIC information services, technical assistance, satellite/Internet broadcasts, and NIC e-Learning Center services. In addition, sections of this report present detailed information on NIC/OJJDP training at the NIC Training Center in Longmont, CO; NIC/OJJDP-paid training beyond Longmont, CO; and NIC/OJJDP partnership programs. Various forms pertinent to training participation are provided.
