This document presents 2003 crime statistics for the King County (Washington) Sheriff’s Office .
Abstract
Criminal homicide was down by 4.5 percent. Forcible rape (including attempts) were up by 0.5 percent. Robbery was up by 7.8 percent. Aggravated assault was down by 3.1 percent. Commercial burglary was down 4.1 percent, while residential burglary was up 9.7 percent. Larceny over $250 was down by 0.1 percent, while larceny under $250 was down 1 percent. Vehicle theft was up 2.8 percent. Arson was up 10.7 percent. Of the total of 19,702 Part I offenses, 1,934 cases were closed. Forty-eight of the 60 homicide closures were for the Green River homicide cases. Of the total of 20,568 Part II offenses, 2,789 cases were closed. There were 122,547 dispatched calls for service. Adult charges and arrests numbered 11,836, while juvenile charges/arrests were 2,458. The number of traffic enforcement cases were 50,605. Fifty-two police officers were assaulted. The total number of gang-related incidents was 392. The total domestic violence-related incidents were 5,188. The domestic violence figures include everything that is related to domestic violence, such as case reports, citations, follow-ups, and assistance rendered to other agencies. There were 38 hate crimes/malicious harassment reports.
