Section 1 lists the prison institutions of Sri Lanka; there are 3 closed prisons, 18 remand prisons, 7 work camps, 2 open prison camps, 1 training school, 2 correctional centers for youthful offenders, 1 work release center, and 25 lock-ups. Section 2 presents the departmental staff classifications and training according to grades for the years 1999 through 2002. Section 3 offers a series of tables and graphs presenting data on unconvicted prisoners. Information is offered on direct admissions of unconvicted prisoners by various categories such as by institution and age of prisoner; most data spans the years 1998 through 2002. Daily and annual average admissions rates are also presented. Section 4 offers data on convicted prisoners in Sri Lanka. Daily and annual average admissions rates are presented and information on direct admissions by various categories, such as by religion, race, and martial status are offered. Additionally, this section presents direct admissions data for convicted female prisoners by type of offense. Section 5 offers data on direct admissions to the Training School for Youthful Offenders. The daily average population is presented, along with tables on direct admission to the Training School by age, residence, marital status of family, and upbringing, among others from 1998 through 2002. Section 6 offers a series of tables containing information about death sentences. The first table offers data on the number of people sentenced to death, number executed, number of death sentences committed to imprisonment, and number awaiting appeal in Sri Lanka from 1992 through 2002. The remaining tables present information from 1998 through 2002 on prisoners sentenced to death by various categories such as sex and race. Section 7 offers four tables containing data on prisoners released on work release scheme, license scheme, and home leave scheme from 1992 through 2002. Section 8 offers two tables on the value of industrial and agricultural output, while section 9 presents a series of tables containing general information about the prison system. Section 10 offers data on drug offenders by various categories such as type of drug and religion. Finally, a narrative chronology of the history of the Sri Lanka prison system is presented.
