This report presents research abstracts in the areas of policing, security and safety, criminology, criminal investigation, and other areas of study conducted at the College of Police and Security Studies in Slovenia from 1996 to 2001.

Abstract

In developing into an academic institution, the College of Police and Security Studies affiliated with the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia is the development of research activities by the College’s teaching and research staff. This report is a book of research abstracts illustrating the research conducted at the College between 1996 and 2001. The research projects reflect the staff’s attempts in the development of subjects and preparation of new training programs within the field of police and security studies. The research abstracts are divided into five groups: policing, security and safety, criminology, criminal investigation, and other studies. Highlights of research conducted in the area of policing include: police organizations, police officer opinions toward suspects and victims, the relationship between police and private security officers, community policing, police stress, and police attitudes towards foreigners. Highlights of research conducted in the area of security and safety include: protection of judges and courts, security assessment, customer satisfaction with private security services, national security and interethnic conflicts, and the analysis of decisionmaking in the process of defense policymaking process in modern states. Highlights of research conducted in the area of criminology include: corruption, environmental crime, organized crime, fear of crime, and crime prevention. Highlights of research conducted in the area of criminal investigations include: criminal investigation of economic crime and psychological factors in criminal investigation. Other studies included the application of neural networks and research of primary etalon for low pressures. Index of authors
