Volume 2 of the 2004 World Drug Report presents statistics on illegal drug production, seizures, prices, and consumption throughout the world.
Abstract
The chapter on production focuses on opium/heroin, coca/cocaine, cannabis, and amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS). Data on opium/heroin production contain sections that deal with Afghanistan, where production has increased; Myanmar; Lao PDR; and seizures of illicit laboratories. The section on coca/cocaine features data for Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, and seizures of illicit laboratories. The section on cannabis production presents statistics for Morocco and seizures of illicit laboratories. Under the section on ATS, data cover seizures of illicit laboratories producing both ATS and "other" drugs. The chapter on drug seizures presents data on seizures for opiates, cocaine, cannabis, and ATS over the period 1997-2002. The chapter on prices for opiates, cocaine, cannabis, and ATS encompasses wholesale prices, street prices, and purity levels. The chapter on drug consumption presents statistics for the annual prevalence for the abuse of opiates, cocaine, cannabis, ATS, and ecstasy, followed by data on treatment demand for primary drugs of abuse. The volume concludes with a description of the data-collection methodology.
