This Federal employee guide identifies resources for assisting victims of domestic violence.
Abstract
Information about domestic violence is presented, as well as practical advice for Federal employees who are victims of domestic violence, for friends and co-workers of victims, and for supervisors. An array of resources and management tools are offered to supervisors so that they can effectively assist employees seeking refuge from abusive relationships. A list of places to turn for help within the Federal workplace is presented, as well as advice for creating a safety plan. Worksheets that assist in the creation of a domestic violence safety plan are included. National and community resources for victims of domestic violence are listed and the options and flexibilities offered to Federal employees are enumerated, including paid and unpaid leave options and alternative work arrangements. The sections for co-workers, friends, and supervisors of domestic violence victims provide tips for being supportive and list the possible indicators that someone is a victim of domestic violence. The final section presents ideas for promoting workplace education and awareness of domestic violence. References
