Abstract
In this issue, three athletic and recreational programs are highlighted that strive to prevent delinquency and foster prosocial values and are supported by Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). These programs include: (1) the nonprofit Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation supporting baseball and softball programs and facilities for disadvantaged youth; (2) the First Tee initiative of the World Golf Foundation that provides learning facilities and educational programs to promote character development; and (3) No Workshops, No Jump Shots programs that use workshops and athletics to reduce truancy and improve academic performance. New publications are announced in the areas of child pornography, missing children, barriers to school reentry, and mental health and substance disorders and youth. In addition, information is provided on funding opportunities and awards for fiscal year 2004 which include: the Tribal Youth Program, OJJDP’s Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative, the Enforcing the Underage Drinking Laws: Rural Communities Initiative, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force Program.
