This document analyzes the plans of eight States to address the problem of homelessness among prisoners reentering society.
Abstract
Under the Federal Serious and Violent Offenders Reentry Initiative, each State receives $2 million to develop new programs to address the needs of inmates returning from prison. The National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH) has analyzed the programs and identified the States that have plans with strong housing approaches, including those that provide temporary reentry housing and those that work to place returning ex-offenders in community-based housing. The States with strong housing approaches include: Alabama, California, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Washington. This document provides a description of the program or services provided by each of these States, the population targeted by these programs and services, and the source of funding for the programs. Contact information is also provided for each State program. In addition, the Web site for the NAEH provides links to each of the eight States' programs.
