As victims of identity theft, people are often left on their own, without a guide through the maze of reestablishing their good credit and name. The Identity Theft Resource Center emphasizes the need to stay organized. This assists in individuals appearing more professional, proving potential violations of the law and sentencing, bringing the case quickly to a more positive outcome, and returning a sense of order back into an individual’s life. All of an individual’s papers are evidence in a criminal case and should be treated as such. Keeping records current, organized, and protected can make a critical difference in a conviction or winning a lawsuit. This paper presents and describes three organizers a victim is recommended to use. First, an official case log which is a chronological and detailed journal of events. The second organizer is a personal journal which is used as an opportunity to vent, to write down frustrations, emotions, and fears. The third and final organizer is the notebook to maintain and organize any important papers, such as the police report, credit reports, all court documents, and victim statements.
