This document provides a description of the training programs and technical assistance available from the National Institute of Corrections Academy Division.
Abstract
Through an interagency agreement with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) provides training programs and technical assistance to juvenile correctional, detention, and probation and parole professionals. After a brief discussion of the NIC/OJJDP agreement and continuing education credits, this document presents an overview of the training programs offered for corrections professionals, an overview of the information services and technical assistance provided by the NIC, a description of NIC satellite/Internet broadcasts, a description of the NIC learning center, an overview of the NIC/OJJDP training offered at the NIC Training Center in Longmont, CO, a description of the NIC/OJJDP-paid training available beyond the training center at Longmont, and a description of NIC/OJJDP partnership programs. For each training program, information is provided on who should attend the program, a description of the program, information on when and where the program is being offered, the application deadline, application requirements, and contact information. The training programs cover topics in the areas of leadership and management, helping agencies build capacity for training and development, and juvenile offender management. Forms are provided at the end of the document that include an application for individuals for NIC/OJJDP training, statement of interest to host partnership programs, site coordinator’s registration for 3-hour and 32-hour satellite/Internet broadcasts, and an application for regional field coordinator.
