Abstract
The guide first discusses the nature and dynamics of coalitions and partnerships, noting that: partnerships are necessary to achieve effective results in dealing with comprehensive and multifaceted community problems; will be perceived differently by those involved in it; will have their own life cycle; are easier to start than to sustain; are challenging to manage; and are built upon the pillars of form and process. The second section of the guide discusses various aspects of starting and strengthening coalitions and partnerships. These include the purpose, vision, and mission; the selection of partners; roles and leadership; effective meetings; relationships; planning; and involving youth. The guide's third section focuses on issues pertinent to sustaining coalitions and partnerships. These include vision, leadership, relationships, plan, infrastructure, resources, community support, fund development, accountability, and adaptability. A list of resources encompasses organizations and printed resources and materials. Appended options for organizing partnerships
