The Triad program, sponsored at the national level by the National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA), includes the goals of preventing the criminal victimization of older citizens and reducing fear of crime through partnerships among local law enforcement and senior citizens groups. The background and development of the Triad program is described followed by an examination of how the Triad program operates at the local level. Locally, Triad groups tend to be organized flexibly to meet the demands of the locality. In addition to linking senior citizens with local law enforcement, other community groups can be included, such as attorneys who may assist senior citizens who have been victimized. The current status of the Triad program implementation is described as expanding; NSA has increased training opportunities and developed local Triad programs in more communities. Future developments within the Triad program, such as the publication of a series of fact sheets and a handbook, are discussed. The inconsistency of funding, however, is blamed as a main cause of minimal staff contact with local Triad groups. Enclosure
