Abstract
Today, due to a rapidly changing world, the need for learning has moved beyond the capacity of the traditional face-to-face classroom environment to an e-learning environment for the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. Addressing their budget constraints and budget cuts in their training division programs, the New York State Division of Probation and Correctional Alternatives (DPCA) developed the Community Corrections E-learning Collaborative (CCLEC) with technical and instructional support from the California based The Education Coalition (TEC) and funding from the National Law Enforcement and Technology Center. The CCLEC tested five online courses as part of the project. TEC provided a 1-week orientation class to students/trainees to familiarize students to e-learning/online instruction and reduce dropout rates in e-learning. Prior to funding running out, over 500 students from 24 States and Canada had participated with early assessments overwhelming positive. CCELC is a model of collaboration among agencies and their professional associations in the pursuit of e-learning.
