The GJJAC was established in 1982 to respond to the provisions of the Federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act. In executing its mission, the GJJAC develops and implements the State's annual juvenile justice plan; monitors secure facilities that hold juveniles to ensure compliance with the JJDP Act; advises the governor, the legislature, and citizens about juvenile justice issues; awards Federal and State juvenile justice funds to projects selected in a competitive process; requires an independent evaluation for funded demonstration projects; funds research, technical assistance, and training; and funds local juvenile justice planning units. Information and data presented in this report pertain to the State's 2002 juvenile population; the minority juvenile population (2002); juveniles living in poverty; school enrollment and dropouts; child abuse referrals; adolescent pregnancy and childbearing; mental health; truancy, at-risk youth, and children in need of supervision; juvenile arrests in 2002; juvenile court offense referrals in 2002; juvenile court case referrals and results in 2002; juvenile admissions to detention in 2002; and juveniles sentenced to Juvenile Rehabilitation Administration in 2002.
