This study focused on the features of homicides that were examined by the authors at the University College of Medical Sciences and GTB Hospital in Delhi, India, between 1992 and 1995.
Abstract
A total of 2,534 cases were brought for medicolegal postmortem examination over this period. Of these, 339 were determined to be homicides. Although the victims were of all ages at the time of their deaths, most were in their 30's (42.5 percent of the cases). There were four times more males than females. A sharp-edged weapon caused death in 45.7 percent of the cases. Most of the homicides occurred during night hours. A total of 72 (21.3 percent) of the victims died within 6 hours of the infliction of the injuries, and only 6 cases involved injuries that would have permitted the victim to live as long as a week before death. 17 references, 3 tables, and 4 figures
