This article offers an overview of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI's) National Academy (NA) and the benefits of continuing education for law enforcement professionals.
Abstract
There are many quality continuing education programs around the country for law enforcement professionals. One highly regarded continuing education program is the NA offered through the FBI which focuses on increasing the professionalism and training of local law enforcement officers. The NA offers a range of leadership and specialized training, as well as opportunities to share information and discuss ideas. The article reviews the NA student selection process and the basics of the academy training. The Alumni Association, known as the FBI National Academy Associates, is open to all NA graduates and is a worldwide professional organization. Finally, the author describes the personal and departmental benefits of attending the NA training. Personal benefits include networking opportunities, lifestyle changes, and academic and career enhancement while departmental benefits include increased proficiency and professionalism. Endnotes
