The ACU-1000 is mounted on a truck to accept up to 12 different incompatible radios, cellphones, and telephone handsets, routing audio back and forth between them. The ACU-1000 is being used in police departments across North America. To increase the mobility of ACU-1000 features, JPS Communications has just put on the market a portable version of the ACU-1000 called the ACU-T. The ACU-T comes in an 8-pound black metal carrying case with a top-mounted handle. Functionally, it uses the same modules as the ACU-1000; however, it differs from the ACU-1000 in key specifications. First, the ACU-T is designed to run directly from a 12-volt DC power supply, which can be a car's cigarette lighter. Second, the ACU-T uses quick-lock connectors that do not require tools for connections, making it quick and easy to connect various radios, cellphones, and telephones to the ACU-T. Third, the ACU-T has six interconnect cards rather than the ACU-1000's 12. The ACU-T is tailored for the work of mobile units involved in rapid deployments that require communications among units across incompatible communications systems.
